Step-by-Step Video Instructions

Click through the steps below to view video demos of each step.
Step 1: Cleaning

Clean the windshield thoroughly with a glass cleaner or alcohol-based solution (if there is a pre-existing coating on the windshield). Finally, use soapy water to clean the windshield and flush out the gaskets well.

Step 2: Initial Fit

Spray windshield with soapy water solution & place the film on the windshield with the liner facing outwards to check the fit, leaving an equal gap around the windshield.

Step 3: Peeling the Liner

Peel back the plastic liner halfway across the windshield & spray with soapy water. Replace the liner. Repeat on the other half of the film.

Step 4: Prep the Windshield

Remove the film from the windshield and spray the windshield generously with your soapy water mixture.

Step 5: The Reverse Roll

Position the film on the windshield (liner facing in) and roll the ExoShield up making sure to avoid tunnelling. With the ExoShield side up, release a corner of the liner and place the film adhesive side onto the glass. Unroll the film by gently pulling the liner while guiding the ExoShield into place.

Step 6: Final Positioning

Make sure the film is positioned on the windshield (there should be ~1/16th of an inch of space between the film and edge of the windshield on all sides).

Step 7: Tacking

Use a hard squeegee across the center of the film horizontally to tack the film. Follow this by creating a vertical tack line.

Step 8: Squeegee

Squeegee out all fingers, bubbles, and excess water from the film.

Step 9: Finishing

You may need to touch up the edges by using a heat gun & soft squeegee. This will take care of any small fingers that remain and help ensure that the edges of the film won’t pop up.

Step 10: Drying

Let the film dry for at least 3 hours before returning the vehicle to the customer.

ExoShield ONE Installation FAQs

What tools do you recommend for installation?

Great question! Check out the tools video above or download our installation guide to find a handy tools checklist before getting started. You can also talk to your ExoShield rep to make sure you have everything you need before the install.

If I have a coating on my windshield, does it have to be removed before ExoShield ONE is installed?

Yes, we recommend that you remove any coatings or Rain-X on the windshield before installing ExoShield ONE using an alcohol-based solution (3 parts water, 1 part isopropyl alcohol). This will help to prevent any unwanted distortion or compromises to the optical quality of the film. If you'd like to apply coatings to ExoShield after it's installed, check out this blog post to see which ones we recommend.

How should I prep the windshield for installation?

A clean and contaminant-free windshield is essential for getting a high quality installation. We suggest thoroughly cleaning the windshield glass and all gaskets thoroughly before application. You will also want to make sure the space around you is clean and as dust-free as possible. For detailed cleaning instructions, please refer to Step 1 in the video.

Are the kits compatible with aftermarket windshields?

ExoShield ONE kits were designed to fit OEM and OEE windshields. In most cases, they should be compatible with aftermarket windshields, but there may be some cases where the aftermarket windshield is significantly different and will not be compatible with the kit. We do not guarantee compatibility of ExoShield ONE kits with non-OEM windshields.

What happens if something goes wrong during installation?

ExoShield ONE was designed to give you a quick and pain-free installation experience, but we get that sometimes things go wrong!

We recommend going through the step-by-step instructional video to help you through some of the harder steps. If you can't find what you're looking for, please contact your rep directly or email to contact our team!

How long does it take to install?

ExoShield ONE can take between 10-30 minutes to install from start to finish. This will also depend on your past experience working with film and whether or not you have someone to help you (we recommend a second set of hands to make things easier!)

Is there training available?

Absolutely! All certified partners have access to our online training platform, ExoShield Academy. We also have a world-class training program that will teach you all the basics of installing ExoShield.
